RYAN HENDERSON (HOLLOW COVES) - MUSIC AND ARTS

"I'm Ryan Henderson. I'm a singer-songwriter/artist in a project called Hollow Coves. For the last couple of years we have been doing music full-time.

We had a lot of touring planned this year that has unfortunately had to be either cancelled or postponed until next year due to COVID-19. We had a European Tour scheduled for April/May, North American festivals in June/July, our first ever show in Brazil (which would have been our largest headline show yet), and European festivals and more headline shows in August. All of that is no longer happening so it's definitely had a pretty substantial affect on how our year looks.

It's important to not dwell too much on the negatives though. We've found it helpful to just remind ourselves of all the things that we still have and how lucky we are here in Australia.

I've actually been mostly by myself since the whole COVID thing kicked off. My parents were travelling overseas in Namibia when it all happened and their return flight was cancelled. They still haven't been able to get a flight home so I'm just staying at their place looking after the dogs until they can get home.

With all the extra time, it's given us a lot more time to focus on music which has been great. I actually started a private group between a group of 7 friends where we have been sharing new music with each other and trying to encourage each other to be creative during this down time. The aim initially was for everyone to write 2 songs each week and share them at the end of the week. We haven't quite kept up with that but there have been some great songs coming out of it.

It's also been a good opportunity to get on top of some tasks that we have been putting off.

This time definitely gives artists an opportunity to be creative. There's so much that we can still do during this time. Try to spend time every day working on something new. Have fun with it. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Just try to enjoy the process."
