"My name is Sierra Jane and I am a self-employed mobile disc jockey based in Melbourne, Victoria.

Prior to COVID-19 my business had taken off and for the first time in the nine years I have been operating, had become my main source of income. This is something which I had been striving for and working towards throughout my career and a big achievement for me.

Unfortunately, approximately mid-March with venues closing down due to COVID-19 restrictions, practically all my work has been cancelled and many weddings have been postponed. I understand that this time is very difficult for many and have provided all my clients who have paid in full, refunds at this time (even if they are postponing to a later date) which has emptied my bank account quickly but has definitely been worth it to help my fantastic clients and provide some financial relief. I am currently not working due to social isolation (lets flatten that curve!) and solely relying on Government funding – something which is definitely uncharted territory for me! I have not received any funding since studying at university after high school so it is a different world for me, I am currently waiting to hear from the Government about the steps to take moving forward.

At this time I am focusing on learning new DJ skills and techniques (I highly recommend BPM Supreme videos on YouTube), working on new mixtapes (I upload these to Mixcloud to show potential clients the range of music I mix and my mixing skills), reading up on the latest DJ tricks, tips and advice (I highly recommend Mobile Beat for DJs and staying focused on working on my health and fitness.

My advice to all those that are affected – stay strong and remain positive. Please know that you aren’t alone, we are all in this together and we will get through this. Use this time to connect with others via the phenomenal world wide web, build on your skills, learn a new hobby and get some much needed rest and downtime, you deserve it!"
